iTrent goes live at University College Plymouth Marjon

23-02-2010
University College Plymouth St Mark & St John has gone live with iTrent, the fully integrated HR, payroll and talent management solution from specialist supplier MidlandHR.

iTrent has replaced two disparate systems previously used to manage HR and payroll at the University College. These systems often presented issues with reporting and daily HR functions, and were also the cause of clear inefficiencies.

Having joined the University College as HR manager in 2008, Lucy Pengelly quickly identified the problems that resulted from running two separate HR and payroll systems. The new starter process in particular was time-consuming and prone to inaccuracy, as data had to be entered separately on each system by the different departments.

Lucy explains: "The integrated payroll and HR functions realised through iTrent have already saved time and resources, and the University College is benefiting from greater synergy between the departments. Simply having all of our HR and payroll information accessible from a single database has been a revelation. It was a big decision to retire the previous software but already that decision is providing real value which is being realised from the outset. MidlandHR’s expertise, together with its education-specific business pack, made the transition as seamless as possible."

Lawrence Knowles, managing director of MidlandHR, comments: "MidlandHR already provides HR and payroll solutions for many of the UK's leading educational institutions. Our success in this sector is due to our thorough understanding of the unique requirements of the education sector. For example, our pre-configured business pack includes industry specific functionality such as Staff Individualised Records (SIRs), flexible term time calculations, multiple employment options and more, all of which are designed to speed implementation and add value for the University College from day one."

The iTrent implementation will take place in three phases, the first of which has already been completed with the installation of the HR modules. Phase two will see the payroll module go live in April, and phase three will complete the project with the implementation of Employee Self- Service and Manager Self-Service to give the University College's 450 employees greater control over their own personnel details and help to increase accuracy.
